This Console Table and Mirror Set by Jinchi is handcrafted of solid camphor. The solid construction of this piece is notable because genuine wood will last longer and maintain its regal appearance longer than man-made substitutes. Furthermore, a higher level of craftsmanship is required to carve genuine wood, so it is clear that our artisans have the skill required to create beautiful pieces. The regal ornamentation of the mirror consists of a repeating wing and shield design, while the console table follows a foliated theme. The unifying element in both is the minute carving creating textured panels almost resembling a tiny weave. The console table features rosette accents at the capital of each leg, as well as intricately detailed turning on each bun foot. A pineapple relief crowned with an elegant rosette at the front of the table is the focus of the ornamentation of this piece. The pineapple relief is an ancient symbol for prosperity and fertility, while the shield and wing ornamentation of the pier glass has obvious celestial connotations. Finally, the marble top completes the majestic effect of this set. The excellent craftsmanship of this set assures the customer that it is as distinctive as it is attractive.

Chinese statue made of Camphor Wood Camphor wood, considered so rare and powerful that it was traditionally used for sacred items such as ceremonial tools in temples, was a protected tree in ancient times. Today, it is used in case goods for storing clothing, as its scent deters moths, and silverware, as its properties prevent tarnishing. Its beautiful, large burls produce excellent patterns prized for elegant veneers and striking wood tones, and can often produce a distinctive fiddleback pattern; otherwise the grain is straight. The outer sapwood is a light straw or grey color, while the heartwood is a rich golden or reddish brown hue. These elegant tones are enhanced by the lustrous quality of the lumber. Because of its classification as a hardwood, it is resistant to damage and general wearing down, yet it is also excellent for carving, staining, polishing, and other aspects of woodworking. It is an exotic wood, rarely seen in a lumberyard due to its use by the medical field.

Protective Varnsih This piece is finished with a varnish for its superior protective properties. The beauty of this wood is clearly exhibited through the high gloss finishing, which is the most durable of all the types of finishes available. It is resistant to heat, water, and alcohol, and because it rests on the surface of the wood, it deflects impact damage. Varnish is based on natural oils and resins, which gives it the natural tone to allow the wood's coloring to show through, and is thinned with turpentine or mineral spirits. This type of varnish is incredibly versatile, as it is compatible with nearly all other stains and finishes, allowing the artisan to truly add elegant detailing. It is important to note that varnish is the most difficult of all the finishes to apply, and so it takes very specific techniques and some skill to produce a nicely varnished piece.

Beautiful Red Marble The top of the console table is a beautiful red marble. Marble has been the choice of artisans since antiquity because of its resistance to fracturing and damage from fire. Marble is a metamorphic rock, meaning that the heat and pressure within the earth's crust has altered the structure of the original stone. Marble is formed from limestone, which crystallizes under great heat and pressure. Exceptionally high heat results in calcium minerals, and transforms iron, alumina, and silica into hematite, which gives certain kinds of marble its red color. Hematite is a stone often associated with strength and easing ailments of the blood because of the iron in its composition. Marble is traditionally associated with immortality, a fitting association for such an elegant and timeless material.

CNC routed The production of this piece begins with larger machines that cut the larger pieces of lumber into workable pieces so the artisans can focus on their talent - intricate and elegant ornamentation and detailing. The artisans participate in a traditional apprenticeship under the guidance of a master who tests their skill over a three year period. After approximately three years, the student is considered a master in his own right. During the apprenticeship, the artisan learns the techniques and tools of the trade, which have been used in China since antiquity.

Two ancient cultures are recognized for their talent and development of woodworking, the Egyptian and the Chinese. Lu Ban and Lady Yu are recognized as the founders of Chinese woodworking, since Lu Ban brought the plane, chalkline, and other tools to China sometime between the 8th and 5th centuries BC. Many of the designs attributed to him follow the principles of Feng Shui, and Chinese art and architecture follow those principles even today. Experts acknowledge that Chinese woodworking is unrivaled for its detailed ornamentation.

Hand Carving Typically, woodworking begins with a large section of wood roughly the size of the finished product. The type of wood is chosen according to the desired results. Often, chestnut, walnut, teak or mahogany are preferred for general ornamentation, while maple and fruitwoods are desirable for the most intricate details. Pine is frequently used for less detailed work. Wood is always carved across or with the grain, though details carved with the grain will have fewer defects over time. For the most intricate work, finer grained wood is preferred. The first step in forming the detail of the piece is completed with a gouge, which smoothly removes large sections of the wood. Next, the artisan will use more precise tools, such as the veiner, fluter, or v-tool. Finally, the craftsman will use rasps, rifflers, and sand paper to smooth the wood and give it a polished look; hardwoods are naturally more lustrous than soft woods, so again, the chosen wood type is integral to the beauty of the final product. To protect the finished artwork, the artisan will finish the piece with natural oils to enhance the color and prevent dust and other contaminants from damaging the wood.

Guangzhou, China This product is produced in Longjiang, located in the south of China, near Guangzhou. It is a fertile region located in the Pearl River Delta with flourishing fish farming, silkworm, fruit production and flower cultivation industries. It is important to note that, as of the 1990s, this region is one of the four wealthiest counties in the country, with improved economy benefitting local and rural families. Additionally, it is a more industrialized, modern region, participating in the global economy and supplying one-third of products to European and American markets.

Longjiang is located within the Guangdong Province, often known as the Canton Province, in China. Guangdong has the largest population in China, and is an economic leader for the country. This is fostered by the Canton Fair, which has occurred every spring and autumn since 1957. The Canton Fair is a major trade fair that takes place in Gangzhou, and one of the featured industries is the furniture industry. Guangdong's experience as a trade and economic leader extends much further into the past than that, however. Guangdong is a recorded major trading destination for Europeans since the 16th century. Today, it is a leader in manufacturing and exports.
