Ibis Pattaya standard double room review: a budget hotel with some surprisingly premium touches

Post Images

The Ibis Pattaya is one of the most popular budget hotels in the city, offering affordable accommodation just a short walk from Pattaya Beach. While it sits firmly in the budget category, the hotel includes several thoughtful design features that make it feel more refined than its price suggests.

During our stay, we toured a Standard Double Room to examine not only its comfort and functionality, but also the interior design choices, materials and how well they have stood up to years of heavy use.

First impressions

Walking into the room, the first impression is positive. The space feels bright, clean and more spacious than many budget hotel rooms.

The neutral colour palette is warmed by a soft yellow feature wall, while wood-effect finishes throughout help create a comfortable atmosphere without trying to imitate luxury. The room is functional, uncluttered and designed to appeal to both business travellers and holidaymakers.

Although the hotel is beginning to show its age in places, it has clearly been maintained well.

An important difference between the standard rooms

One feature that many guests may not realise before booking is that there are actually two different layouts for the Standard Double Room.

The room featured in this review includes a generous work desk beneath the window, making it an excellent choice for digital nomads, business travellers or anyone needing to use a laptop during their stay.

The alternative room layout includes a balcony overlooking the beach side of the hotel, but sacrifices the desk completely.

For travellers planning to work during their stay, the desk layout is easily the better option.

A comfortable and practical bedroom

The room offers everything expected from a modern budget hotel:

  1. Double bed
  2. Large wardrobe
  3. Electronic safe
  4. Mini refrigerator
  5. Kettle and tea-making facilities
  6. Plenty of complimentary bottled water
  7. Luggage bench
  8. Full-length mirror

The bed itself is relatively simple, using a standard mattress with a protective topper that allows easier maintenance and replacement when required. It's a practical solution that reflects the operational priorities of a busy budget hotel.

Storage is particularly generous for this category, with ample wardrobe space and a dedicated area beneath for shoes or luggage.

Modern charging for international travellers

One of the best recent upgrades is the addition of USB and USB-C charging ports beside the bed.

This small improvement makes a significant difference for modern travellers, particularly those arriving from overseas who may not have the correct plug adapters. USB-C is rapidly becoming the standard for phones, tablets and laptops, and its inclusion helps future-proof the rooms without requiring a major renovation.

It's exactly the type of practical update that enhances the guest experience at minimal cost.

A bathroom that exceeds expectations

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the bathroom.

Budget hotels often reduce costs by simplifying finishes and using the most durable materials possible. However, the bathroom at the Ibis Pattaya still retains several decorative elements that give it a noticeably more premium appearance.

Highlights include:

  1. Full-height ceramic wall tiles
  2. Marble trim around the floor
  3. Mosaic tile detailing beside the mirror
  4. Ceramic tray and tumbler
  5. Spacious shower enclosure

These small design touches demonstrate a level of attention that is increasingly uncommon within the budget sector.

Interestingly, they also provide a contrast with the recently renovated Ibis Greenwich in London, where many decorative finishes were removed in favour of simpler industrial materials designed purely for durability.

The Pattaya property shows that it's still possible to create an attractive bathroom without significantly increasing maintenance costs.

Signs of age beginning to appear

The room is now reaching the point where some materials are beginning to show normal wear and tear.

Most noticeable are the MDF furnishings with wood veneer finishes.

Around the television cabinet, desk edges and skirting boards, sections of veneer have started to chip and lift, exposing the material underneath. While these imperfections are relatively minor, they do reveal the age of the current furniture package.

Similarly, some rooms within the hotel still retain older laminate flooring that is beginning to look tired compared with the newer polymer flooring installed in others.

These are exactly the kinds of components likely to be addressed during the hotel's next refurbishment.

Design lessons for future renovations

One interesting challenge facing many hotel operators is balancing durability with aesthetics.

Replacing wood veneer with more resilient materials would certainly improve longevity, but there is a risk of creating interiors that feel overly industrial.

The Ibis Greenwich demonstrates this perfectly, using highly durable black flooring and simplified finishes that reduce maintenance but also remove much of the warmth found in older Ibis hotels.

Ideally, future renovations at the Ibis Pattaya would retain the welcoming atmosphere while introducing more durable surface materials that resist damage over time.

Location

The hotel's location remains one of its strongest selling points.

Guests are only a few minutes' walk from:

  1. Pattaya Beach
  2. Terminal 21 Pattaya
  3. Restaurants and cafés
  4. Convenience stores
  5. Public transport

Despite its central position, the hotel remains competitively priced, making it particularly attractive for repeat visitors to Pattaya.

Value for money

At around 1,300 baht per night when booked through Accor, the Ibis Pattaya continues to represent excellent value. Plus when booking through the app, points and stays accrue.

The rooms are clean, functional and surprisingly spacious, with practical amenities that make them suitable for stays of several days or even a week.

While there is no sofa or lounge chair found in more expensive hotels, the room provides everything most travellers genuinely need.

For guests looking for affordable accommodation close to Pattaya Beach, it remains one of the strongest options in its category.

Final verdict

The Ibis Pattaya succeeds because it understands exactly what budget travellers need.

Rather than attempting to imitate luxury, it focuses on providing practical, comfortable accommodation with a handful of thoughtful design touches that elevate the experience above that of many competitors.

Although some furnishings are beginning to show their age, the addition of modern USB-C charging, generous workspace, quality bathroom finishes and an excellent location ensures the hotel continues to offer impressive value.
